friday i had various snacks in place of a real lunch due to circumstances beyond my control. i started with something light in case i managed to make it to a restaurant as per the original plan so i had a naked juice smoothie in ‘gold machine’ flavor. it was really tasty. this is the best picture i could get because i was on the run and driving around

by the time i got to my parents’ house lunching was still being put on hold so i had a piece of wheat toast with a smear of peanut butter

then lunch was postponed indefinitely so around 330 i had a bowl of frosted mini-wheats topped with apple oh’s in soymilk

breakfast was loaded with carbs but i tried to leave sugar out of it as much as possible. not sure i did a very good job of that but i’m feeling very full still so i guess only time will tell…

it was a little over 1c. of cereal (about 3/4c. of pumpkin raisin crunch and a heaping 1/4c. of apple oh’s) and 1/2c. of soymilk with 1 lifestream organic maple cinnamon waffle smeared with almond butter and 1 piece of cranberry walnut bread, toasted.

i felt full but not super-uncomfortably so after eating all this food. looking at it in writing makes me want to work on balancing the nutrients for future mornings. i might have to go back to kashi go lean because it’s the best, even though it tastes kinda like cardboard. maybe i can make it palatable with pecans and agave nectar. i’ll have to try that soon…

 

pumpkin cereal May 30, 2008

so while my mom was at costco yesterday buying the offending pizza that i subsequently ate for dinner, she bought me a box of organic pumpkin seed flax and raisin cereal. it was pretty good, i just needed a quick bowl of something when i got back from swimming so i could hurry up and get ready. it is pretty loaded with calories per cup but also with a ton of other nutrients. to save on calories i used a 1/2c. of almond milk. so for breakfast i did pretty well, only 287 calories! i have a feeling tonight is not going to be as great so i’ll try until then to eat light.
the reason i’m going to be busy socializing tonight is because it’s the premiere of sex and the city! i’m going to a cocktail reception before the movie sure to be full of yummy but fattening appetizers and alcoholic drinks. this will be a real test. i plan on eating before i go but i don’t want to be the stick in the mud at a party like that so i’ll want to partake a little. i promise to take pictures of every morsel so i can be proud of what i ate by the end of the night! i’m hoping that going in with this attitude will keep me in check.

since i ate lunch so early today i have been snacking since then, about 396 calories worth according to myfitnesspal.com. i took pictures of the granola bar and the cereal but i snuck a tablespoon of almond butter without taking its pic. photobucket is on the fritz right now otherwise i would post said pictures. i’ll try again later, i just really wanted to post up about my snacks before i tackle my second workout. i’ll probably grill a turkey cutlet for dinner. i can’t wait to go to sleep tonight, i am about ready to tear my eyeballs out. i swear it’s like i rinsed them in milk or something. i hope i can make it through jazzercise. sorry for the stream of consciousness without any visuals.

workout tonight was spin class, one of my favorite workouts! the instructor was just a substitute so it wasn’t as much fun as usual BUT still a great calorie-burning fest. i really pushed hard the entire 45 minutes we spent on the bike so myfitnesspal gave me a total burn of 501 calories! woot.
pre-workout i had a sample box of fiber one caramel crunch. i thought the carbs would help me power through the workout and they did! plus it tasted delicious, i’m gonna have to buy some.
1c. of cereal with 1/2c. of milk was a 225 calorie snack.

they tasted a lot like cinnamon toast crunch, i rather enjoyed it. for 9g. of fiber, sign me up!
post workout i went to dinner at a friend’s house because she cooks very healthy dishes and always invites me over after our spin class (she’s the one who introduced me to spin in the first place). it was turkey meatloaf and steamed green beans. very delicious. i also had a glass of red australian wine. no picture, we got chatty and i forgot to bust out the camera.
i can’t believe wednesday is already over! tomorrow i’m going to swim laps in the morning at the aquatic center by my place, i can’t wait! i was seriously bummed, though, when i went over there to scope it out just now and they handed me the new summer hours. adult lap swim for the summer doesn’t start until noon! now i can’t use it as my morning workout like i had planned on. i really wanted to sneak in some extra cardio and i thought i could use a morning workout to energize me and get me going. so tomorrow and friday i can, just not next week or for the rest of the summer :(
i’ll have to figure something else out. when all else fails, i still have jazzercise :)

 

crispix and a banana smoothie May 28, 2008

i didn’t have a whole lot of time this morning (again) so i skipped the oats-on-the-stove but i wasn’t feeling having cream of wheat two days in a row. plus i want to save the rest of my blueberries to make this, hopefully sometime this week. i need to stop and get some fat-free yogurt and cottage cheese. i am hardly making it without these two staples. but anyway, since i had to get creative again this morning, i had a plain old bowl of cereal (crispix) with 1/2c. of fat-free milk AND (here’s the creative part) a banana smoothie! not that exciting but i made it with almond milk to save on calories and 1/2tbsp. of flax oil to add some healthy fat to my breakfast. the banana was frozen so i didn’t need to add ice. it turned out so sweet, if i ever need a sweet fix, i’m making this again!

for a grand total of 360 breakfast calories. smoothies tend to fill me up pretty well so i’m hoping that holds true today. it’s been two hours and i feel no hunger pang yet so that is promising!
